Caring for the Whole Pet
Animals of any age, particularly those in their senior years, may be confronted with a number of health conditions that can be cured or easily managed if found early.
Whitesburg Animal Hospital is capable of handling a wide range of diagnostic procedures and providing curative treatments or long-term care, including medications and therapies.
Internal Medicine
To provide you and your pet with an accurate and speedy diagnosis in a low-stress setting, Whitesburg Animal Hospital has invested in cutting-edge technology and maintains a well-educated staff. We also educate our clients regarding their pets' conditions and treatment options.
If your pet becomes ill or you suspect there may be something wrong with him or her, we cover all areas of internal medicine, including cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, oncology, endocrinology, and others.
For example, we can treat:
Skin Disease – Pets are susceptible to a number of conditions such as hot spots, allergic reactions, and rashes. Modern dermatology has created many advances in therapeutics and diagnostics. These advances have given us the ability to treat the skin minimizing the use of long term cortisone use. From allergy testing to skin cytology and more, we provide a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and acute or long-term treatment of these conditions.
Ear Diseases – Ear infections are among the most common diseases in dogs and cats. To diagnose and properly treat them, otoscopes are used to visualize the ear canal and ear drum. As treatment progresses, these scopes can also be used to monitor recovery progress and adjust treatments as necessary. In severe ear disease cases, we obtain cultures, test for sensitivity, and irrigate the inner ear. Ask if you would like to see your pet's progress on one of our scopes.
Pain Management – In surgical cases and certain medical conditions such as arthritis, short and long-term pain management is necessary. We take into account your pet's age, size, breed, source of pain, internal organ function, and other factors to create a personalized pain management plan.
Renal Disease – We treat all forms of kidney disease and consider this one of our special interest areas. We follow the International Renal Interest Society guidelines designed to help veterinarians better diagnose and treat kidney disease in dogs and cats.
Cardiac Disease – We follow the latest American College of Cardiologists and American Heart Association guidelines and protocols for the proper care of your pet's heart health. Through electrocardiography, radiographs, blood pressure and other diagnostics, we have the tools necessary to thoroughly evaluate and monitor your pet's heart condition.
Behavioral and Nutritional Counseling
Behavioral Counseling – Behavior problems are not uncommon in pets, are often complex to treat, and may be the result of medical or environmental problems. Whether your pet is experiencing social or separation anxiety or inappropriately urinates or defecates; we can help solve these problems.
Nutritional Counseling – Good nutrition is the key to a healthy life for your pet. The benefits of proper nutrition include proper weight maintenance, increased energy levels, and an overall healthier life for your pet.
Counseling about nutrition begins with your pet's first visit to the veterinarian. We will discuss different choices available for your pet's food, the proper weight for your pet, and the proper feeding amounts to maintain a healthy weight. Then we can recommend the proper diet to meet your pet's nutritional life stage.
